ABOUT THE WORK
Containment is an exploration of humanity’s relationship with the Earth. For Eleanor Cepko, this relationship is one of order and chaos. Beautiful, yet destructive, such relationship attempts to organize the feral and compose the entropy. This body of work enforces our tradition of utilizing right angles to contain the disintegration and germination. The artist is captivated by the creation and destruction that flows as a result of the man-made, as well as in spite of it. In this work, porcelain serves as a representation of mining and material hierarchy, a record keeper of our sensitive relationship to touch, making, and construction. In essence, Containment is an abstract, contemporary, minimalist take on a wunderkammer. This work is a reflection of the satisfaction mankind experiences while classifying and collecting bits and pieces of our raw earth.
